Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects is designing the new theater building for Opera in the Ozarks located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Envisioned as a theater in the woods, this new 300 seat opera house embeds itself into the Ozark terrain it’s called home for almost 75 years. Opera in the Ozarks is an opera training and performance program that started as a summer camp in 1950 to provide students from various backgrounds access to music education. The program evolved into a music mecca, attracting students from across the globe. The facility will include a 300-seat theater, rehearsal hall, expanded production shops, practice rooms and faculty housing. Embracing views to its surrounding forrest and the lake beyond, the theater beckons arriving patrons under its abstracted tree canopy to experience the performing arts within.
