Sam has always had a fascination with the built environment, even from his early teenage years. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Ozark Mission Project, learning how to build structures at an early age while also learning the importance of teamwork. Eventually, this led to a job in commercial construction, where the importance of drawn details was manifested with every decision made on the job site. Reading and understanding the details played a critical role in the success of each day. Sam brings this unique experience to the firm. He Implements the design concepts with a strong focus on the execution of precise and constructable details.
With the understanding that projects are rarely successful without a strong team, Sam brings a team first approach to each opportunity. Teams often include large and complex ownership groups and stake holders, numerous design and engineering consultants, as well as contractors and craftsmen. Each member has a vital role and unique perspective on how they will deem the project successful. Under Sam’s leadership, a trust is built with each partner, and success becomes more apparent for all involved.
These traits were evident in two of his more recent projects; Midtown Lane in the heart of downtown Bentonville and the University of Arkansas School of Art Windgate Galleries in collaboration with Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects. For Midtown Lane, Sam, organized and studied the ever-changing needs of a large and complex client through the early stages of Covid-19, when workplace and work culture were at a crossroad with health and wellness. During design and documentation, he managed, coordinated, and detailed all aspects of the building with a large A/E team, implementing each of the client’s needs. With the Windgate Galleries project, his primary task was leading PSW’s role in detailing and documenting the exterior façade. The building is intended to be a 100-year building, meaning the materials and details must stand the test of time.
