The former Massey Hotel building is a Renaissance Revival structure built in 1910 just off the Bentonville Square and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Lady Slipper occupies the basement and mezzanine level of the south portion of the structure and is envisioned as a vintage space to reflect the building’s history. A portion of the existing mezzanine level was dropped in order to create a grand main space for the bar. The primary bar, mezzanine and basement all have different floor levels connected with new stairs and accessible lifts. The basement level includes a full service kitchen and an intimate cocktail bar with seating area comprised of bold, dark finishes and planned primarily as a reservation only space. The main level is occupied by the primary bar with mul- tiple seating types with finishes that provide a dramatic spin on the traditional watering hole. The space is accessed from the south courtyard of the building and an extensive redesign of the courtyard was a primary driver of the project. Outdoor seating with custom wood benches and planters provide outdoor gath- ering space and a portion of the space is covered with a new deck at the second level which provide outdoor space for the offices above the bar. Carefully detailed screening was provided for existing ground mounted and roof mounted electrical and mechanical equipment along with complementary lighting for the outdoor areas.
