In an attempt to better serve the students, the University of Arkansas asked Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects to design a multi-functional space in the Garland Avenue Parking Garage for both students and mentors that will serve to assist the “at risk” student population. The goal was to create an inviting environment that welcomes students in from the bustle of campus. Lounge seating is accompanied by a café area where one can have a cup of coffee while preparing for his/ her next class. The Student Success Center also serves as a place where students are able to meet with academic and financial advisors either in one of the six private offices or the open public space. This open space is pushed to the front maximizing daylighting while also maximizing exposure of interior activities. Although the offices are set towards the back, the doors and walls uniquely incorporate glass that serves to bring natural light deep into the spaces. The white form of the private offices with blue trim and wood walls provide a nice backdrop for the Student Success Center as seen from Garland Avenue.
